Description:
On June 29, 1969, an Army Piasecki H-21 helicopter transporting six firefighters and 3 crewmembers crashed en route to the Russian River Fire near Cooper Landing, Alaska. The cause of the accident was believed to be engine failure. In the crash, seven personnel aboard were injured, and one firefighter, 18-year-old Mark Westover of the US Forest Service, was killed.
