San Diego Crew Vehicle Rollover Fatalities 1938

Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crewmembers Bruce Allen, 17, and Oral LeRoy Bruner, 19, were killed when the U.S. Forest Service vehicle in which they were riding overturned in Harbison Canyon, San Diego County. The driver and two other occupants were thrown clear of the rolling vehicle and escaped major injury. Media reports describe the truck's front wheels as having "locked up" on a sharp turn, and the vehicle rolling over, coming to rest upside down. It is possible that the men were traveling to a 30-acre fire that was burning in the Alpine Heights area on the Cleveland National Forest.
