Sand Hill Fire Dozer Transport Accident Fatalities 1970

Cecil Griggs, Monroe Wilkes and Otis Wilkes were killed when they were crushed in a dozer transport following a vehicle accident responding to a wildfire in the Sand Hill area of Chesterfield County, South Carolina. The three men, identified as South Carolina Forestry Commission forest rangers, were transporting the dozer on lowboy trailer on a forest road when the vehicle slid into the ditch. In the accident, the chains holding the dozer to the trailer broke, and the machine toppled into the cab, killing the men.
