    Larry Higgins, a firefighter with the California Department of Forestry (now CAL FIRE) was entrapped and fatally burned on the Santa Rosa Fire near Lake Elsinore. Higgins was on one of the first engines to arrive at the fire, and was in the process of advancing a hoselay when a fire whirl or flareup entrapped him. Higgins, 21 years old, had joined the state fire agency in April 1952 and was stationed at the Elsinore fire station.
