Description:
A member of an initial attack module was building direct fireline on the Savage Mountain Fire, Kootenai National Forest, Montana, when the firefighter’s leg got stuck between two logs. The firefighter fell with full body weight on the stuck leg, and this fall forced the knee to bend awkwardly. A Forest Service EMT assisted in treating, evaluating, and transporting the patient to the medivac site, and accompanied the injured firefighter to the hospital. The medevac was accomplished with an agency contracted helicopter. The firefighter was evaluated and released on 07/06/23 but will not be returned to work for normal duty until an MRI is performed. A hospital liaison and trainee were used to support the injured firefighter and to assist with required paperwork and reporting.
