    Late on the evening of August 4, 1949, Lloyd Francis "Frank" Moore, 19, was critically injured when he was struck by a falling snag on the Sawyer Creek Fire, Lolo National Forest, northeast of Seeley Lake, Montana. The incident was investigated by Regional Safety Officer Clyde Bake, who determined that Moore was struck by a dead lodgepole pine, 65 feet tall and 11 inches in diameter at the base. Moore passed away shortly after the tree strike. Frank Moore was the youngest brother of Powell District Ranger William "Bud" Moore, who later became Director of Fire and Aviation for the Northern Region of the US Forest Service (Region 1).
