    Joe Dillich, a firefighter in Western Oregon, was killed by a falling tree on the Scoggins Creek Fire, part of the great Tillamook Burn of 1945. Dillich was working with an engine to check the fire. He felled a hemlock tree, which fell in an unexpected direction and hit Dillich, killing him.
