Sleepy Hollow Fire Engine Collision with Train Fatality 1964

    Richard Krejci, a firefighter with the California Department of Forestry (now CAL FIRE) was killed when the engine he was riding struck a freight train en route to a house fire with vegetation threat in the Sleepy Hollow area near Chino. The engine, an open-backed, two axle truck, was responding with red lights and siren on Etiwanda Avenue when in skidded and struck a passing freight train. The rear of the engine broadsided the a freight car, throwing Krejci from the back of the vehicle and killing him. The other occupants of the engine were injured.
