    Joe Aiken, a Forest Service employee, was transporting drinking water to a fire crew on the Smith Creek Fire, Pend Oreille National Forest, Idaho, when he stopped to give three firefighters a drink. At that point, a tree fell and hit Aiken, fracturing his skull. Aiken passed away 90 minutes after the tree strike. The Smith Creek Fire was located near Sandpoint.
