Description:
C. B. Hyde was fatally injured on February 26, 1911, when he fell and struck his head while assigned to the Snow Creek Canyon Fire located above Whitewater, California. Fire-loosened rocks were a hazard on this fire. Hyde was either struck by a rock or lost his footing to avoid a rock and fell down a steep slope. He was treated by a fellow firefighter while another went for help at Whitewater down at the base of the mountains. A group of responders mobilized, but arrived at the accident scene after Hyde had died from his injuries.
