Description:
C. B. Hyde was fatally injured when he fell and struck his head while assigned to the Snow Creek Canyon Fire, above Whitewater, California. Fire-loosened rocks were a hazard on the fire, and Hyde was either struck by a rock or lost his footing in avoiding a rock, and fell down a steep slope. Hyde was treated by a fellow firefighter while another went for help at Whitewater at the base of the mountains. A group of responders mobilized, but arrived after Hyde had succumbed to his injuries.
