Stone Fire Initial Attack Entrapment 2018

    Modoc National Forest: Two engine modules and a helicopter and crew were assigned. The fire was almost contained at ½ acre when conditions changed and the fire behavior escalated quickly and dramatically, growing to approximately 1,500 acres that evening. Firefighters disengaged from the fire. During that disengagement their escape was compromised. A helicopter being used for bucket work, jettisoned the bucket and extracted the firefighters. No injuries were sustained.
