    Frank Riley, a firefighter with Sequoia National Park at Ash Mountain Headquarters, became lost on a fire near Mineral King and found dead several days later. Riley was a World War I veteran who had joined the veterans' branch of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) until it disbanded and subsequently joined the fire program at Sequoia National Park. The Ash Mountain crew was dispatched to a fire above Mineral King at Tar Gap and Riley became separated from the crew and was not found for several days. He was believed to have died of exposure.
