Description:
A contracted felling module who had just begun working along the dozer line below DP-160 that day was felling snags along the route to make conditions safe for firefighters to plumb the line and begin a potential burnout operation. At 0900 a call came across the radio announcing that there had been a tree strike and one of the fallers had been injured. DIVS working nearby rushed to the scene of the accident and took over command of the incident. One of the fallers had been struck by the butt end of a 24-inch fir he had felled. He appeared to have a broken leg. The Task Force Leader reported: “We have a 67-year-old male with a broken leg. He is conscious, alert and oriented with pain that is a 7 out of 10. We need a backboard to package the patient and will need to transport him 75 yards uphill to DP-160 to rendezvous with Medic 4.”
