Temple Fire Burn Injury 2017

  • Location:

    Colorado
  • Date:

    06/10/2017
  • Incident Type:

    Burn Injury
  • Description:

On the Temple Fire southwest of Craig Colorado a firefighter was using a chainsaw for direct line construction. The chainsaw died mid-cut through a branch of a small juniper tree with flames at the base. After trying to restart it a few times, the sawyer walked into the green and removed the fuel cap. The fuel tank was still half-full, so he closed the cap, believing that it was fully sealed. Unbeknownst to the Sawyer, fuel leaked out of the saw’s tank and onto his chaps as he walked back to the juniper. The fire from tree ignited the spilled fuel on his legs as he approached the tree to finish the cut.
