Description:
Thomas Denehy, an employee of Western Pacific Railroad based in Virgilia, California, was killed by a falling rock while fighting the Three Lakes Fire, Plumas National Forest. Denehy was dispatched with other railroad employees to assist in suppressing a fire in the Three Lakes area, near Bucks Lake. Denehy was struck in the chest by a rock rolling down a steep slope, and was knocked 200 feet downhill. He was carried out by fellow firefighters to the railroad at Camp Rodgers resort, where he passed away before medical help could arrive.
