    Thomas Denehy, an employee of Western Pacific Railroad based in Virgilia, California, was killed by a falling rock while suppressing the Three Lakes Fire on the Plumas National Forest. Denehy had been dispatched with other railroad employees to assist in suppressing this fire located in the Three Lakes area, near Bucks Lake. Denehy was struck in the chest by a rock rolling down a steep slope--that knocked him 200 feet downhill. He was carried out by fellow firefighters to the railroad at Camp Rodgers resort, where he died before medical help could arrive.
