Timber Canyon Fire Entrapment 1908

Alfredo de la Riva was entrapped while attempting to evacuate a miner in the Topatopa mountains of Ventura County, California. De la Riva was an early employee of the Santa Barbara Forest Reserve (which later became the Los Padres National Forest). De la Riva assisted the elderly man in attempting to escape a wind-driven fire. The miner was overcome by fire at the scene and perished, and de la Riva suffered burn injuries.
