Trapper Creek Fire Hit by Log Fatality 1956

On July 27, 1956, Otto Crooked Arm, an experienced member of a 100-person Crow Indian fire crew, was killed by a rolling log on a fire on Trapper Creek on the Salmon National Forest. The 30-foot-long log was set free by the action of the fire, and rolled down to the lower flank of the fire. Here the log struck three men, including Crooked Arm. The two other firefighters were not seriously injured. A doctor was flown to the scene by helicopter and pronounced Crooked Arm deceased.
