Description:
Herbert Segress, a long-time employee of the California Department of Forestry (now CAL FIRE) died suddenly on the evening of June 20, 1953 of an apparent heart attack. Segress was a dispatcher at the Tulare Ranger Unit dispatch office in Visalia, and asked to take a rest break at approximately 2030 during his shift. Segress went to the attached barracks to rest and was found there a few minutes later, deceased. Segress, 57, had previously been an engine operator and crew foremen in Porterville. He was a veteran of World War I.
