Tuolumne County Air Tanker Training Accident Fatalities 1986

  • Location:

    California
  • Date:

    06/29/1986
  • Incident Type:

    Fixed Wing Incident
  • Description:

Two pilots, Richard Boyd and Clarence Lind, were killed when their Grumman S-2A Tracker registered N415DF with the callsign Tanker 77 crashed into terrain near Angels Camp in Calaveras County. They were on a training flight over Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. The crash started a 20-acre brush fire. One source indicates the plane stalled after dropping its load of water. It also indicates that engine failure simulation practice may have been a factor. No NTSB investigation report or other information is readily available.
