Description:
Firefighter Corydon "Corey" Goodwin of the Springdale Fire Department was entrapped in his fire engine and perished during initial attack of the Twombley Road Fire in Sanford, Maine. High winds created a high rate of spread as the fire burned through the Maine woods. Reports indicate that Goodwin may have had trouble starting the vehicle as the fire advanced on his location and, ultimately, he could not escape before becoming entrapped. Goodwin may be the first firefighter to perish on a wildland fire in the state of Maine.
