    William T. Ingle, a young firefighter employed by the New Deal era National Youth Administration (NYA) was killed on a 700-acre fire on the Mount Hood National Forest near Disston, Oregon. He was struck by a tree and received critical injuries including fractures, internal injuries, and a fractured skull. On August 31 he is listed as being near death in the hospital in Eugene, and he likely died September 1.
