Description:
On July 7, 2012, personnel from the National Forests in Florida conducted a prescribed burn on the Wakulla Ranger District of the Apalachicola National Forest. Burn Unit 233 is located 8 miles northwest of Crawfordville, Florida and 1.5 miles south of Highway 267. The burn unit consists of numerous stands separated by swamps. A Type 2 Prescribed Fire Burn Boss managed the implementation of the prescribed burn. Late in the afternoon while most other resources were gathered for an After Action Review of the day one team of firefighters were trying to finish burning one to two more stands. At approximately 1620 hours a firefighter from this team became entrapped and removed his fire shelter from its case during firing operations. The firefighter shook out his shelter but did not enter it. No injuries were sustained.
