Logger Robert S. Vetter was traveling to the scene of a fire in a small railroad "speeder" on August 8, 1929, when the speeder collided with a railroad locomotive near Vernonia, Oregon. Vetter received serious injuries and passed away on August 9 in the hospital in Portland.
