Description:
An Austrian immigrant coal miner whose name is reported as Bles Cheferin was killed by a falling tree on the Waptus Trail Fire on the Wenatchee National Forest, Washington. The tree fell without warning when a group of three firefighters was suppressing a spot fire along the trail. Cheferin suffered severe head and leg injuries. He was carried to the main group of firefighters, and with their help down to Roslyn. Cheferin had responded to the Forest Service's call for additional firefighting help issued several days before the accident.
