On August 27, 1934, CCC crewmember Russel (sometimes spelled Russell) Blakely was hit by a rock while fighting a fire on the Okanogan National Forest, somewhere in the vicinity of Winthrop, WA. Blakely suffered a fractured skull and was attended to by medical staff from 1400 to 1630, when he was pronounced dead.
