    On November 21, 1930, fire motorcycle dispatch rider Charles Davis was killed when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident as he rode from his station in Banning to the Waterman Canyon Fire on the San Bernardino National Forest in California. At the time, the fire was burning over an area larger than 1,000 acres. More than 1,000 firefighters were employed to suppress this fire.
