    A prescribed fire unit on Northern California's Shasta-Trinity National Forest was ignited by aerial ignition with helitorch on January 11, 1999. While ignitions were in progress, a weather observer inside the unit was nearly entrapped and burned. The observer escaped the unit without injury and ignitions were suspended.
