    John Gulock, a 59-year-old logger from Portland, died suddenly at fire camp while waiting in the pay line on the Willard Fire, Columbia National Forest, near White Salmon, Washington. Gulock's cause of death was listed as "Apoplexy." In 1949, the Columbia National Forest was re-designated to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
