    On Friday, October 6, 2023, at approximately 1520 hours the Williams Incident occurred in the San Benito – Monterey Unit. A CAL FIRE engine was attempting to gain access to the vegetation fire when it became inoperable. As the fire progressed, it became established in a drainage below the engine’s location. The crew deployed two engine protection lines to defend their position while the fire burned through and past their location, causing them to seek refuge on the passenger side of the apparatus. A Fire Captain and two Firefighters suffered minor burn injuries. All three were transported via air ambulance to Fresno Regional Medical Center and were released.
