Wilson Fire Hit by Tree Fatality 1933

Frank Palmer, a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) enrollee in Company 1654, was killed by a falling tree on the Wilson River Fire, more generally known as the "Tillamook Burn." Palmer was reportedly patrolling a fireline at night when a green Douglas fir tree without obvious defect fell without warning and struck Palmer in the chest, killing him instantly. Another firefighter who was with Palmer was also injured in this tree strike, receiving what were described as "severe injuries" to his legs.
