    John Guiry, 51, was killed by a falling tree while suppressing a forest fire near Wilson River Road in Washington County, Oregon--in what is now the Tillamook State Forest. While mopping up the fire with the rest of the crew, a burning snag fell and struck Guiry, who was then stuck beneath the tree. After he was successfully extracted, the injured firefighter was carried one mile out to the nearest road. However, Guiry passed away before he reached medical care.
