Description:
John Guiry, 51, was killed by a falling tree while suppressing a forest fire near Wilson River Road, Washington County, Oregon, in what is now Tillamook State Forest. While mopping up the fire with the rest of the crew, a burning snag fell and struck Guiry, who was then stuck beneath the tree. After he was successfully extracted, the injured man was carried a mile to the nearest road, but passed away before he reached medical care.
