Description:
While digging handline on the Windy Fire on the Sequoia National Forest, a firefighter was struck across the back by a 10-inch-diameter live oak tree. The tree had burned through its base. The firefighter, who received fractures to the spine (L-1 and L-2), had no loss of consciousness or loss of motor functions. The patient was transported via ambulance to the Drop Point, then via helicopter to a Level 2 Trauma Center, where the patient underwent surgery.
