Yellow River Bridge Vehicle Accident Fatality 1934

Raymond Jonutz, a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) enrollee at Camp Perkinstown in Wisconsin, was killed in a vehicle accident on the way to suppress a forest fire on the Chequamegon National Forest. The CCC crew was transported in a large truck with an uncovered bed area where firefighters would ride. The vehicle carrying Jonutz overturned on the Yellow River Bridge while they were enroute to a fire at Miller's Dam a few miles west of the camp at Perkinstown. Jonutz suffered a broken neck in the accident and died on the way to the hospital in Medford.
